How do I split the bill evenly when adding tip?
First calculate the tip on the pre-tip total, then add it to get the grand total, and divide by the number of people. For example: $100 bill, 20% tip = $20 tip, grand total = $120. Split 4 ways: each pays $30. Some people prefer to tip on the pre-tax amount (exclude tax from the tip base), which is more common in regions with high sales tax.
Is the tip for the server or the restaurant?
