Frequently Asked Questions
Can I crop without losing quality?
Cropping only removes pixels outside the selected area — it does not resample or compress the remaining pixels. When you export as PNG (lossless), the cropped image has the exact same quality as the original in the cropped area. JPEG and WebP apply compression, so there may be some quality loss depending on the quality setting.
What is the rule of thirds?
The rule of thirds is a composition guideline that divides the image into nine equal parts using two horizontal and two vertical lines. Placing important elements along these lines or at their intersections creates a more balanced and visually appealing image. The crop overlay shows this grid to help you compose better crops.
Can I crop multiple images at once?
No, the current image cropper processes one image at a time. To crop multiple images, use the crop tool for each image individually, or consider using a batch processing tool like ImageMagick for command-line bulk cropping.
What aspect ratio should I use for social media?
Instagram posts: 1:1 (square) or 4:5 (portrait). Instagram Stories: 9:16. Twitter/X: 16:9 for headers, 1:1 for posts. Facebook cover: 820×312 (2.64:1). LinkedIn post: 1.91:1. Pinterest pin: 2:3. YouTube thumbnail: 16:9.
