QR (Quick Response) codes were invented by Denso Wave in 1994 for tracking vehicles during manufacturing. How much data can a QR code hold?
Maximum capacity depends on character type and error correction level. QR Code Version 40 (maximum) can store: 7,089 numeric digits, 4,296 alphanumeric characters, or 2,953 bytes of binary data. Higher error correction reduces capacity.
What is error correction in QR codes?
QR codes use Reed-Solomon error correction with 4 levels: L (7% recovery), M (15%), Q (25%), and H (30%). Higher levels allow the code to be scanned even if partially damaged or obscured. Level H can still work with 30% of the code damaged.
What file formats are supported?
